Cities That Feed Our Planet

Year 3 and 4 Seed Bomb Incursion

Biodiversity is vital for a healthy planet - for the future of food and life. This incursion introduces them to the importance of biodiversity through hands-on activities and discussion. Farmwall's Urban Farmers have delivered this and other programs to classrooms across primary and secondary settings - join the movement to help us support insect populations and rewild the urban environment!

About the incursion

Seed bombs are a fantastic gardening, urban farming and education tool, helpful for planting native wildflower seeds anywhere you can throw them. Our Urban Farmers come to you, bringing the materials for each student to make their own seeds bombs. Through this fun and engaging hands-on activity, students learn about urban farming, the importance of biodiversity and why flowering plants are necessary for the health and wellbeing of humans and the environment.
Content can be tailored specifically to your class's age group, interests and ability. Engaging with nature and the practice of growing is also excellent for students mental and physical wellbeing. As students re-adjust to the classroom following two years of isolation and interruptions, contact with nature can be an important experience for building resilience.

Further learning

When you participate in this incursion, you can also receive access to Farmwall's online platform and community, Ecosystem. This gives you access to live support 7 days a week, as well as live webinars, industry guest speaker events, personal development and teacher networking events where resource and lesson plan sharing is incentivised. You can share your wins and your losses, feedback and ideas. While our year-long flagship program is aimed at Year 9 & 10 students, we are happy to support you in introducing important concepts around sustainable food and biodiversity to your students.
For schools offering P-12, this could also be an excellent way to introduce students to the more advanced Farmwall program.
